Meet Your Music Teacher

Hi there — I’m Demetria, and I teach fun, engaging piano lessons for kids right here in the San Francisco Bay area (and online, too). My lessons are designed especially for children ages 4–12 who love music and learn best through creativity, laughter, and play.

I’ve been playing piano since I was nine years old and teaching for more than twenty years — ever since my oldest daughter was a preschooler. Today, she’s a college graduate with a degree in music, my youngest daughter writes her own songs, and I still get that same spark of joy every time one of my students discovers a new song, masters a tricky rhythm, or proudly plays for their family.

My lessons for children are game-based, creative, and paced to each child’s unique rhythm. I love finding ways to make music theory approachable and fun — whether it’s through rhythm games, storytelling, or digital tools that bring musical concepts to life. Parents often tell me that lessons feel calm, nurturing, and encouraging, even for shy beginners.

A little more about me: when I’m not at the piano, you can usually find me sipping green tea (or occasionally indulging in chocolate), writing songs, taking long walks, or curled up with a good memoir. I’m also a podcast producer and run Soul Podcasting, my own creative agency that helps others share meaningful stories through audio. Over the years, I’ve been a blogger, a YouTuber, and now a singer-songwriter exploring Gospel, Jazz, R&B, and Neo-Soul music. I’m also active in my church, where I sing and help lead worship.

I believe music should never feel like a chore — it should inspire curiosity and confidence. My goal is to nurture that spark in every child I teach, helping them develop not only skill but also a lifelong love of music.

If that sounds like the kind of piano journey you want for your child, I’d love to meet you.
You can schedule a free intro call to chat about your child’s interests, goals, and how we can make piano lessons something they truly look forward to each week.

🎵 A Little Music From Me

Music has always been my first language — it’s how I express emotion, tell stories, and connect with others. When I’m not teaching, you’ll often find me at the piano, lost in a favorite song.

Here’s a little glimpse into that side of me — my rendition of “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys. It’s one of my favorite songs to play and sing because it reminds me that music, at its heart, is about connection and feeling.

Happy Former Student

We feel so lucky to have Mrs. Dee as our daughter’s first piano teacher.  Mrs. Dee is knowledgeable and patient, and she provides good resources and references so we can practice  newly learned skills at home.  My daughter always leaves her piano lessons happy and encouraged.  She is excited to practice at home and always looks forward to seeing Mrs. Dee at lessons.  Thank you, Mrs. Dee!

More From Students…

From the Student:
My name is Nadine, and I am in 5th grade . I worked with Miss Demetria for about a year, she is always so kind and loving. She always makes learning so much fun. I mainly worked on math during tutoring, and she helped me become good with multiplying, dividing, and more.
From the Parent:
My daughter received tutoring from Miss Demetria during her 4th and 5th grades. Miss Demetria significantly contributed to establishing a solid foundation in mathematics for her. Throughout this period, my daughter grew in confidence and independence. She is now excelling in more advanced topics and has developed a passion for math. All of this is thanks to Miss Demetria.
